Weekend Adventures: Cross Country, Bets and Chick-fil-A

Our weekends typically involve only one day of togetherness. Our jobs have different workdays, and we usually have either Saturday or Sunday off together, and seldom both.

Yesterday we went to our first ever Cross Country meet. Don’s son, Nathan, found out last year that running is his game. He can fly! His sophomore year was his first time to be on the track team and this year he is giving Cross Country a try. If yesterday’s meet is any indication, he is going to excel at Cross Country, also.

It was a perfect day to be outdoors, with a race time temp of about 70 degrees. The course wound through a city park, ending with a steep, nearly impossible, “Billy Goat Hill”. We thoroughly enjoyed watching all the races, and were blown away by how fast some of these kids are. Nathan finished the first mile of the event in 5:21, his personal best. We are looking forward to this season, and learning more about the sport.

Last year, Pennsylvania passed a law that allows sports betting in its casinos. Ohio doesn’t allow it yet, but that really isn’t a problem for us since we live fairly close to Pittsburgh. We wanted to place a (small) bet on our Cleveland teams, and decided to combine that adventure with a (small) late anniversary celebration.

After playing roulette for a couple hours, we went over to the sports book to check out the odds. It was really fun to see the Browns favored to win their division, and one of the top teams favored to win the Super Bowl! The Indians odds to win the World Series are not bad either, although they are not favored as highly as the Browns. A couple small bets will make both seasons a little more fun, and hopefully we will win one or the other. Or both!

For our anniversary dinner, we ended up at Chick-fil-A. We discussed our choices all the way home from Pittsburgh and both agreed that Chick-fil-A sounded delicious. It is our favorite fast food restaurant, and after a long day, fast seemed like the best option.

After years of eating only Polynesian sauce, we are new fans of Chick-fil-A sauce! We always ask for extra, so we don’t have to fight over it. It makes the best ever chicken even better, and we like to dip our waffle fries in it, too.

We finished out our weekend adventures, with a Meet the Team event at the local High School. The event was canceled due to a major thunderstorm last Sunday. The Cross Country, Football, Cheer, Soccer and Golf teams were all individually introduced – a very nice program with small town charm.
