Ring of Honor Draft

Friday night, Don participated in the Sirius XM Fantasy Sports Radio ten year celebratory Ring of Honor Draft. It is hard to believe that it has already been ten years since the station launched, and even harder to believe that Don was chosen Most Passionate Listener of the Decade! The producers did a fantastic job choosing the winners – there can’t possibly be any listener that is more passionate than he is, or that has had such life changing events because of the station.

The draft was live on the radio, beginning at 8:00 EST, but the participants had to sign into the zoom meeting and the draft site about an hour beforehand to ensure there wouldn’t be any technical difficulties. For some reason, zoom meetings give us a little trouble. Possibly because we haven’t been in on many, and sure enough, it took a few tries to get into the meeting. Our frazzled nerves were quickly eased by the professionalism of the Sirius XM staff who knew exactly what they were doing and how to make the show run smoothly.

Matt Deutsch, Senior Director Fantasy Sports, Sirius XM Fantasy Sports Radio gave a warm welcome to all of the winners, and thanked everyone for making the station’s success possible. Matt Deutsch, y’all! Thanking Don and the other listeners. What a great moment that was!

We both thought it was really cool listening to and having Don be part of the pre-show. Mike Dempsey hosted the draft which included two experts, the Guru – John Hansen – and Michael Fabiano. All three are super nice guys, even though Dempsey beat us a couple years ago in the championship game of the Diehards Listeners League.

Don had the 12th pick of 12 teams and had a game plan going into the draft. He hoped to draft Miles Sanders, Running Back for the Philadelphia Eagles, but knew Fabiano would take him for his first pick, if he was still available. Sanders went with the 5th pick, so Michael Fabiano missed out on him too.

For Don’s first two picks, he chose Julio Jones and Tyreek Hill, using the Wide Receiver strategy. This is something he has never done before. He likes to grab a Running Back with his first pick but since the top Running Backs were gone by the time the 12th pick rolled around, he decided to go with Wide Receivers.

He followed up in rounds three and four with two Running Backs, stacked a couple Atlanta Falcons, and finished off with a team that will be competitive.

We have a few more posts to write about this league, including one about the winning categories and team names. Thank you Sirius XM Fantasy Sports Radio for lots of great blog post material and some new friends!
