Hobbies

We have been thinking a lot about our hobbies – old ones, new ones and Fantasy Football.

When Don was younger, he collected baseball cards. He has a huge collection and was really into it back in the day. Collecting baseball cards made him grow to love the sport even more. He learned about the players and their stats and could name every baseball player on every team. His hobby helped him get into the game.

His interest in numbers and stats are probably what got him interested in fantasy sports. He started playing Fantasy Baseball, back before computers, when they got all the information from newspapers. That led to Fantasy Football – Don’s all time favorite hobby.

We both love to read and share the same interest in books…most of the time. We really like to read book series, and James Patterson is one of our favorite authors. Give us a couple good books and we are happy, whether reading at the beach, on our deck, or inside if it’s cold or rainy.

I have played the piano since I was four and still love to spend time playing. Shoutout to my Mom and Dad for making me practice 30 minutes a day even when I hated it. Photography is also on my list of things I love to do, especially if it is pictures of puppies or children. And, of course, I love to write. I’ve written ever since I can remember, and now I am working to create a career in writing children’s books (and Fantasy Football?).

Every year, more and more people are getting into Fantasy Football. The market for Fantasy Football is in the billions and shows no sign of slowing down. This hobby used to start in August and end in January. Now it is a year long hobby with best ball and dynasty leagues. We listen to Fantasy Football radio shows or podcasts and read the experts’ content every single day.

Last, but not least, is Don’s short-lived hobby of flying drones. He was fascinated with our son-in-law’s drone and when Bobby upgraded, Don bought his old one. This drone lated approximately 2 months before being crashed into our neighbor’s maple tree. It seemed like we watched in slow motion as the drone hit one limb after another and then fell to the ground in pieces. It was beyond repair, and the hobby was over.
