A Passing Fad or Here to Stay?

Best Ball has been around for a few years, but is recently gaining popularity. It is bigger than ever this year, and now we have officially joined in.

Best Ball is Fantasy Football without the work. No free agents, no trades, no waiver claims and no lineups to set. Nothing to do but draft and win…or lose. The draft is the best part of Fantasy Football for many people, so Best Ball is definitely for them. Best Ball drafts start up as soon as Week 17 is over and go right up until the beginning of Week 1, which gives Fantasy Football lovers something to do during the off-season.

The downside of Best Ball is that players have already been drafted that won’t even make it to Week 1. For example, Hunter Henry, Tight End for the Los Angeles Chargers was supposed to have a big breakout season this year. Lots of folks drafted him, but May 22nd he tore his ACL and will be out the entire season.

Don is not a fan of Best Ball. He says what makes Fantasy Football so much fun is feeling like a General Manager. Making all the calls, starting the right players on any given week, executing trades and picking up free agents make you feel like you have total control of your team.

I signed up to be in a Best Ball league with Bob Lung. It seemed like a great idea – the league benefits Fantasy Cares, a wonderful Toys for Tots charity. (Click here to donate to FantasyCares) The level of competition is very high in the Lung League, so I immediately asked Don to help me. We make a great team, so watch out guys! It is nice to be in a slow draft and make one or two picks a day, and being involved in a draft is gearing us up for Fantasy Football season.

We think Best Ball is likely here to stay. It is quick, easy and does not require a time commitment. There is much more luck involved than in Fantasy Football, and a person can realistically have dozens of Best Ball teams. It is great for those of us who can use a little practice for our drafts!
